Hampton VAMC Expands Services, Reduces Homelessness
The VA Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia recently cut ribbons for two new facilities—a mammography center and a new OEF/OIF/OND clinic—to serve two fast-growing Veteran populations. The mammography center will serve women Veterans (nearly 17% of Hampton patients) and the OEF/OIF/OND clinic building will treat the nation’s newest Veterans (23% of Hampton patients). Through another initiative, the medical center has helped nearly 300 Veterans find housing, according to a story from the local ABC affiliate. “They’ve given me so much hope,” said one female Veteran who is looking to take part in the Department of Housing and Urban Development and VA Supported Housing Program (HUD-VASH), which provides housing and services for homeless Veterans.
